Where did the name Lucky Penny come from anyway…
I found selecting a name for my business one of the hardest business decisions to date. I spent three months adding countless names to a list, only to end up scratching them off. Lucky Penny was the first added and the last one left.
There’s a saying you have all heard but the final part is often left off. It goes “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in her shoe.” In the middle ages people would do anything to ward off evil spirits, especially during a rite of passage celebration like a wedding so it became tradition for a British bride to tuck a sixpence into their left slipper. A sixpence was a silver coin worth six pennies. My family has followed this tradition using a penny. On my wedding day my mother passed along the same 1917 Brazilian penny her grandfather gave her on her wedding day.
I had been contemplating starting an event planning company when I found a heads up penny in an airport. I have always picked up pennies from the ground. At that moment everything clicked and Lucky Penny Event Planning came to be.
And Lucky Penny it is!
